LAPD
No, not the police department. The Team.
Saba Saba is upon us, again.
Time must have had a sip of some Red Bull, because only wings can make something fly so fast. Feels like yesterday when I last wrote on here, but it has been a whole YEAR. That's wild.
Anyway, it's 7/7 today. And I really don't have any stories to tell this time, or any number patterns to dwell upon, just a short reflection on the past year.
My time at GOMYCODE has been nothing short of amazing so far. It's now been what, one year, three months since I reported there? I have had the honour of mentoring a number of young minds in this software development world, and I am grateful to each and every one of them for accepting to be my Padawans. I continue to do so with my current students, and with even more to come in the future.
GMC has been more of a home than a workplace. And no, it's not because of the beautiful space, nor the bean bags that I often take naps on (ssh, don't tell HR). It's the people. We have grown so much as a team over the past year, and we continue to grow with every passing day.
Working at a start-up is not the easiest of things. It is a constant battle which tests your physical and mental fortitude. And yet every day, the team there wakes up and braces for it all. I have learnt so much from our interactions, and I just can't wait to see the level to which we grow GMC in years to come.
Yesterday, a group of them decided to surprise me for my birthday. Talk about a rollercoaster of emotions. I was led to believe something else was happening, only to walk in and find familiar faces in an unfamiliar place, all beaming with love. Words can't really paint the picture of how I felt.
While writing this, I've thought of how to refer to you, and landed on your initials. Thank you, L.A.P.D. Actually, let me update the title of this entry to that. You are all a special bunch. Especially you, D <3.
Today marks a new chapter, in more ways than just turning one year older. I welcome everything lined up with open arms, putting the Almighty at the centre of it all. As A said yesterday in his speech, "Jesus first, Jesus second, Jesus third, Jesus fourth, Jesus everything." Wiser words have never been uttered.
Baby brother Dan, as always, a message to you: happy birthday, buddy. I know one day when you're older you will get to read these, and when you do, remember this: everything that you dream of is within your reach. Go for it.
Cheers to the future.
Gift from D, who knows I'm obsessed with bikes. Love it.
